A hot topic on this year’s program agenda is the Conditions of Participation for Organ Transplant Centers recently released by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (see Sessions 215 and 225). It is increasingly common for patients to use over-the-counter herbal and vitamin preparations, creating a treatment challenge for health care providers. This session will focus on the renal-related effects of the most common herbal/vitamin preparations as well as their desired actions and adverse effects. The most common medications used to treat patients with renal disease and the interactions between these medications and herbal/vitamin preparations also will be discussed. (Pharmacology: 90 minutes)
