    Crunches won’t do anything if you are overweight, other than strengthen and tone your abdomen. The layer of fat will still remain, and will hide any progress you make with the crunches. Your best bet is to lower your overall level of body fat, and the only way you can do this is through a balanced diet and disciplined cardio routine.

    When it comes to cardio, don’t run outside. Running outside is excellent for your heart and it will help to increase your overall strength and stamina, but it does little to burn fat. To get rid of fat, your heart rate should stay at around 60% of your maximum heart rate. You want to jump on a treadmill or an elliptical and do about 45 minutes to an hour at a slow, even pace. By slow, I mean barely jogging, more like a brisk walk. Set the incline to about 6 or 7, and keep the pace just shy of jogging. Make sure the machine can read your heart rate. Do this 4 or 5 times a week on an empty stomach, DON’T EAT CARBS BEFORE CARDIO. If you have ANY food in your stomach, you will burn those calories before the fat.
